About Me

Education

I grew up in Fairfax County, just outside Washington D.C., and went through the public school system.  After graduating from high school, I went to Longwood University,  where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Elementary Education.

After teaching for two years, I decided that I wanted to go back and get my master's degree in special education.  I found the perfect program through Michigan State University that focused on Special Education through the perspective of a general education classroom teacher.

Professional

I headed back home to start my career, and have now been teaching for four years in Fairfax County, where I grew up.

I teach at Timber Lane Elementary School, a Title I school.  Our student population is very transient and diverse.  Over 70% of our students come from ethnic minorities.  We have students from more than 20 countries who speak more than 30 different languages.

Through Fairfax County, I have been able to continue my learning by participating in numerous Professional Development opportunities.  They have focused on best practices in teaching content areas, such as mathematics and reading, as well as working with different groups of students, specifically English Language Learners.

Personal

I recently got engaged and am looking forward to planning my wedding as soon as I graduate from my master's program. My fiancé moved to Alaska recently and I loved getting to explore the Kenai Peninsula with him when I went to visit.

I love spending my evenings relaxing while knitting, quilting, or cross-stitching, and in general, being crafty.  I am also a singer, and love to sing along with songs in the car, or really anywhere that I am.  Most of all though, I love spending time playing with my dog, Mr. Darcy.
